Australian OGTR Reviews Application for Commercial Release of GM Herbicie Tolerant Canola

August 19, 2026

Pioneer Hi-Bred Australia Pty Ltd has submitted an application to the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) seeking approval for the commercial release of a genetically modified (GM) canola modified for herbicide tolerance.

The DIR 226 application focuses on a GM herbicide tolerant canola DP73496xRF3. If approved, the authorization would allow the commercial cultivation and distribution of this agricultural crop across Australian farming regions. The GM canola and its products would enter general commerce, including use in human food and animal feed.

The OGTR is preparing the Risk Assessment and Risk Management Plan for the application, expected to be released for public comment and advice from experts, agencies, and authorities in December 2026, with at least 2 months for submission of comments.

For more details about this field trial, visit the DIR 226 page on the OGTR website.
