The Petri Dish: Where Science Hits the Headlines
August 19, 2026| |
The Petri Dish, Malaysia's first science newspaper, has entered a new chapter with the launch of our new digital platform.
Since its establishment in 2011, The Petri Dish has evolved from a biotechnology-focused print newspaper into a broader science, technology, and innovation (STI) media platform. Over the past 16 years, we have highlighted the work of scientists, increased the visibility of emerging technologies, supported startups and entrepreneurs, promoted national STI initiatives, inspired students to pursue STEM careers, and facilitated collaborations among researchers, industry, government agencies, and international organizations. We have also provided a platform for scientists to develop their science communication skills while bringing science to underserved communities through targeted outreach initiatives.
Our mission remains unchanged: to bridge the gaps across the entire R&D and commercialization value chain by connecting scientists, policymakers, industry, entrepreneurs, educators, students, investors, and the public through effective science communication.
As emerging technologies such as gene editing, gene therapy, artificial intelligence, precision medicine, advanced agriculture, and clean energy continue to transform our societies, the need for evidence-based, accessible, and borderless science communication has never been greater.
Our next goal is to position The Petri Dish as a platform that strengthens collaboration between the Global North and the Global South by supporting research visibility, cross-border collaboration, technology transfer, talent development, commercialization, science-based policymaking, public engagement, and social acceptance of emerging technologies.
We are also expanding into new formats, including Petri Dish TV and podcasts, to reach wider and more diverse audiences. We invite scientists and researchers, science communicators and journalists, universities and research institutions, industry leaders and startups, international organizations, policymakers, sponsors, and advertisers to collaborate with us in building a stronger, more connected, and more inclusive global science ecosystem.
Science should not remain within laboratories and journals. It should be accessible to everyone, everywhere.
