EFSA Affirms Safety of GM Soybean GMB151 × DAS-44406-6

The Panel on Genetically Modified Organisms of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA GMO Panel) has published a scientific opinion confirming the safety of the genetically modified (GM) soybean GMB151 × DAS-44406-6. The scope of the application EFSA-Q-2024-00330 submitted by BASF Agricultural Solutions Seed US LLC is for import, processing, and food and feed uses within the European Union (EU), excluding cultivation.
Developed by combining two previously assessed single events, the two-event stack soybean is engineered to express specific proteins (Cry14Ab-1, HPPD-4, PAT, AAD-12, and 2mEPSPS) that confer resistance to plant-parasitic nematodes and tolerance to various herbicides. The EFSA GMO Panel concluded that the molecular characterization and comparative analysis revealed no safety or nutritional concerns, finding the stack soybean as safe as its conventional counterparts.
The assessment, which included evaluations of toxicology, allergenicity, and environmental impact, determined that the GM soybean does not pose a risk to human or animal health. The GMO Panel noted that no new data on the original single events would modify their prior safety conclusions, and as such, no post-market monitoring of food or feed is considered necessary. This scientific opinion provides the necessary biosafety assurance for the product's potential import and processing within the EU, supporting the ongoing integration of advanced agricultural biotechnologies into the European market.
